Quality Assurance Technician I

Position Summary:
The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for a variety of tasks including performing audits of facilities and processes for compliance with food safety standards. This position will work in a food and feed manufacturing plant and warehouse.

Responsibilities:
  • Prioritizes time to maintain deadlines and ensure MDG remains compliant with regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Assist with ensuring production floor records and logs are maintained, up to date and filled out correctly by the operators.
  • Assist with internal training and compliance for internal SOPs.
  • Analyze and interpret testing results and create suggestions, follow-up actions and conclusions.
  • Develop, evaluate and implement protocol improvements.
  • Handle and protect confidential and sensitive data with integrity.
  • Perform related work and other duties, as assigned.
  • Assist with receiving and releasing ingredients and packaging.
  • Assist in the Environmental Monitoring Program (swabbing, plating).
  • Assist with Supplier and Ingredient Approval program by contacting suppliers for documentation.
  • Assist with the Non-conformance and Quality Opportunity tracking.
  • Assist with paperwork checks and sign-offs for operations
Qualifications:
  • Become certified for 21CFR 117 GMP
  • MS Word and Excel experience.
  • 1-2 years in QA in food or feed manufacturing or food preparation service.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical certification, Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Bacteriology, Microbiology, or Food Science, preferred.
  • Have a willingness and desire to learn, including accepting feedback. 
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible.
  • Approaches work and others in a cooperative manner, establishing relationships to build trust.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
  • Majority of work is conducted in a fermentation production facility/blending facility and includes frequent exposure to wet, humid, dusty, and noisy conditions.
  • Work includes lifting (up to 50 lbs.), standing, walking, as well as occasional scooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • May be exposed to airborne particles and chemicals used in fermentation production facilities.
Safety Requirements:
  • Mandated use of company-issued uniform and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Adherence to all company safety procedures and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
  • All employees are required to be food safety certified.
  • Adhere to all food and feed safety requirements.
