Position Summary:
The Spray Drying Operator I will provide support in the daily operation of the production of spore forming bacteria (benign) as well as help clean the facility in the manner required for Good Manufacturing Practices of food and feed ingredients. These activities are primary responsibility of this job. 
Responsibilities:
  • List responsibilities with bullet points
  • Responsible for operating pilot and plant spray dryers, and all supporting equipment which include pumps, valves, cleaning systems and automation controls in the production of spray dried powder. 
  • Perform analytical testing to ensure the slurry and finished product meets customer specifications (moisture, pH, density, etc.) 
  • Submit samples of slurry and finished products to quality control or lab for analysis. 
  • Responsible for accurate documentation on all records or logs of raw materials, finished products and all production processes.  
  • Understand and follow production schedules working closely with the fermentation manager. 
  • Troubleshoot equipment/process related issues on the fermenters, spray dryers, and associated equipment. 
  • Responsible for achieving units and fermentation team goals. 
  • Pack product on pallets and secure for shipping 
  • Load product on carrier trailers and process shipping documents 
  • Mill freeze dried material, spin, pack, and complete documentation to transfer to production 
  • Spin and pack spray dried material and complete documentation to transfer to production 
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • List relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities of the role
  • 1+ years of experience in manufacturing, fermentation, spray drying or chemical product operations. 
  • Associates degree or higher is desirable with focus in fermentation or biomanufacturing or spray drying 
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
  • Majority of work is conducted in a fermentation production facility and includes frequent exposure to wet, humid, dusty, and noisy conditions
  • Work includes lifting (up to 50 lbs.), standing, walking, as well as occasional scooping, kneeling, or crouching
  • May be exposed to airborne particles and chemicals used in fermentation production facilities

  • Mandated use of company-issued uniform and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Adherence to all company safety procedures and regulations to maintain a safe working environment
